Court & Boundaries

• The sidelines, baselines, and half-court line are considered out of bounds.

• The three-point arc used (college or NBA distance) is determined by the venue.

 

Check-Ups & Starting Possession

• All possessions begin with a referee-controlled check-up.

• The offensive player must establish both feet fully behind the three-point line.

• The offensive player must step straight back to receive the ball. Lateral movement is not permitted.

• Defenders must allow a clean check-up.

• Self-checks are prohibited.

 

15-Second Check-Up Rule

• After any made or missed basket, the offensive player has 15 seconds to retrieve the ball, establish both feet

behind the three-point line, and be ready for the referee-initiated check.

• Failure to complete the check-up within 15 seconds results in an automatic loss of possession.

 

Dribble & Movement Rules

• A maximum of four (4) dribbles is permitted per possession.

• A fifth dribble results in an automatic turnover.

• Once dribbles are exhausted, the offensive player must attempt a shot within five (5) seconds.


Possession Ends When

• Any shot attempt (make or miss).

• A turnover.

• A free throw attempt.

• A jump ball or tie-up (automatic turnover and change of possession).

• Any violation.

• The defender contacts the ball and it touches the floor.

• If the offensive player regains control before the ball touches the floor, play continues with no remaining

dribbles.

 

Scoring System

• Inside the arc: 2 points.

• Outside the arc: 3 points.

• Free throws: 1 point.

• First player to reach 30 points wins.• No game clock.

• Games may end on a free throw.

 

Fouls & Free Throws

• Foul on a missed shot: 1 free throw (make = offense keeps possession, miss = possession changes).

• Foul on a made basket: basket counts, no free throw awarded.

• After 5 shooting fouls in a half, the player is in the bonus (shot + ball regardless of result).

 

Take Fouls

• A take foul is any foul committed to stop play without a legitimate basketball attempt.

• Take fouls result in 2 free throws.

• Possession resumes with a standard check-up.

 

Multiple Fouls

• Two fouls committed during the same possession result in one free throw.

• Foul count resets afterward.

• A missed free throw results in a turnover.


Defensive Rules

• One-hand contact is permitted on the catch.

• Two-hand contact, hands on shoulders, or excessive contact is a foul.

• Defenders must respect check-up space at all times.

 

 

Paint & Positioning Rules

• The 3-second rule is enforced for offensive players in the paint.

• Three-in-the-key violations will be called.

• Defenders must occupy designated lane spots during free throws unless instructed otherwise.

 

Dead-Ball Procedures

• The offensive player must re-establish both feet behind the arc before each possession.

• Players must say 'not ready' if unprepared.

• Ball issues must be reported immediately.

 

Conduct & Sportsmanship

• Basketball-related trash talk is allowed.

• Personal, threatening, or offensive language is prohibited.• Technical fouls may be assessed for fighting, post-play contact, throwing the ball, excessive ball slamming, or disrespect toward officials.

 

Delay of Game

• Holding the ball after a score.

• Intentionally slowing check-ups.

• Avoiding live play.

 

Technical Fouls & Penalties

• A warning may be issued before a technical foul at the referee’s discretion.

• First technical: 1 free throw + loss of possession.

• Second technical: 2 free throws + loss of possession.

• Three technical fouls = ejection from the game and player does not receive payment.


Timeouts & Game Flow

• Each player receives 2 timeouts per half.

• Calling a timeout without one available results in a technical foul.

• Halftime occurs when a player reaches 15 points.

• The referee may grant a medical timeout if necessary.

 

Official Review Rule

• Reviews may only occur during the final 5 points of the game (when a player reaches 25 points or more).

• Reviews are limited to dribble limit violations or ball deflection/last-touch decisions.

• A review may only occur if two referees do not agree on the call.

• If referees agree, no review will be used.

• The referee crew has final authority after the review.

 

Referee Authority

• Referees have full authority to enforce all rules.

• All decisions are final following any permitted review.

Players are expected to maintain professionalism at all times.
